AN ACT Relating to peace officers; and adding a new section to chapter 4.24 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 4.24 RCW to read as follows:

          Except as otherwise provided by statutes of this state, a peace officer as defined in RCW 9A.04.110 is not liable for civil damages for false arrest, false imprisonment, or any other injury resulting from any act or omission that is the result of the officer's good faith exercise of discretion occurring within the course and scope of the officer's public employment.  This section does not apply to any acts or omissions constituting gross negligence or wilful or wanton misconduct.
