BACKGROUND:

 

Counties, cities, and towns are required to provide ramps of a certain size on or near the crosswalks at intersections whenever curbs are constructed on any county, city, or town street, or on any connecting street or town road for which curbs and sidewalks have been prescribed by the governing body.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Counties, cities and towns are required to provide ramps of a certain size on or near the crosswalks at intersections whenever curbs are constructed.

 

EFFECT OF SENATE AMENDMENTSThe requirement that curb cuts with handicapped access ramps be located on or near crosswalks at intersections, whenever street or road construction work is done that includes the construction of curbs, is limited to situations where curbs are to be constructed "in combination with sidewalks, paths, or other pedestrian access ways."
