AS PASSED HOUSE JANUARY 24, 1990
BACKGROUND:
A contractor is required to include his or her registration number in all advertising, including advertising by radio and television.
SUMMARY:
Contractors are not required to include their registration number in advertisements by airwave transmission when the seller of the advertisement obtains the contractor's registration number. Contractors are still required to include their registration number in all other forms of advertising.
Fiscal Note: Not Requested.
House Committee ‑ Testified For: Representative Pete Kremen, Prime Sponsor; Geoff Gibbs, Washington State Association of Broadcasters.
House Committee - Testified Against: No one.
House Committee - Testimony For: Requiring contractors to include their registration numbers in radio and television advertisements is unnecessary and financially burdensome. Announcing registration numbers in contractor advertisements tunes out listeners and does not substantially protect consumers. This requirement is also costly to contractors.
House Committee - Testimony Against: None.
