(1) The responsible pharmacy manager of a hospital or free standing emergency department may, in collaboration with the appropriate medical staff committee of the hospital, develop policies and procedures to provide discharge medications to patients released from hospital emergency departments during hours when community or outpatient hospital pharmacy services are not available.
(2) The policies and procedures in subsection (1) of this section shall:
(a) Comply with all requirements of RCW
70.41.480;
(b) Ensure all prepackaged medications are affixed with a label that complies with WAC
246-945-018;
(c) Require oral or electronically transmitted chart orders be verified by the practitioner in writing within seventy-two hours;
(d) The medications distributed as discharge medications are stored in compliance with the laws concerning security and access; and
(e) Ensure discharge medications are labeled appropriately.
(3) The delivery of a single dose for immediate administration to the patient is not subject to this regulation.
