PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

Subject of Possible Rule Making: Chapter 16-250 WAC, Commercial feed rules and chapter 16-252 WAC, Commercial feed rules—Pet food and specialty pet food, the department is considering adopting the current version of the Association of American Feed Control Officials Official Publication and making other technical amendments to the rules.

Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 15.53.9012 and chapter 34.05 RCW.

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The Washington state department of agriculture received a petition for rule making requesting the adoption of the most current updated version of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Official Publication.

Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: United States Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration.

Process for Developing New Rule: Department staff will discuss any proposed amendments with affected stakeholders. Affected stakeholders will also have an opportunity to submit written comments on the proposed rules during the public comment period and will be able to present oral testimony at the public hearing.
