NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF A POLICY OR INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT


     Title of Interpretive Statement: Anesthesia Administration for Podiatric Surgical Patients.

     Issuing Entity: Podiatric medical board.

     Description: The interpretive statement defines WAC 246-922-001(5) "...under the supervision of a physician authorized under chapter 18.71 or 18.57 RCW." A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) administering general or spinal anesthesia to podiatric patients must have a supervising physician. Credentialing of the supervising physician is the responsibility of the facility where the anesthesia services are being rendered. The supervising physician is not required to be physically present in the facility but must assure that the CRNA is administering general or spinal anesthesia as permitted by state law and that a safe environment is maintained for providing those services.
