PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

WASHINGTON STATE PATROL

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: Chapter 204-10 WAC, Equipment standards.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 46.37.005.

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: To update existing language with current Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 108 and add clarifying language in other sections. The amendments are a result of reviewing the WAC with current FMVSS.

     Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: The department of licensing, Mr. Dale Brown, WAC coordinator, was provided an e-mail copy of proposed updates.

     Process for Developing New Rule: Reviewed current federal standards and found chapter 204-10 WAC was not up-to-date with those standards.
