Subject: Alien emergency medical program (AEM) changes.
Effective Date: August 1, 2009.
Document Description: The legislature directed the medicaid program to reduce its expenditures. On August 1, 2009, the medical criteria for eligibility and the scope of services that will be paid for under the federal medicaid definitions for emergency services will change. Certain services will no longer be reimbursable. This affects aliens who have an emergency medical event. Evidentiary hearings to challenge these changes will not be available. Emergency WACs will be effective August 1, 2009.
