PUBLIC NOTICE
Announcing the Reissuance of the Fisheries Resource Management General Permit
Permit: The Washington state department of ecology (ecology) will reissue a general permit to regulate the use of rotenone and potassium permanganate for management of fish populations in surface waters of Washington state.
Washington's water quality statutes and regulations do not allow the discharge of pollutants to waters of the state without permit coverage. Rotenone and potassium permanganate used for management of fish populations are potential pollutants, and therefore require a discharge permit before application to surface waters. Ecology issues general permits in place of a series of individual permits when the permitted activities are similar.
Purpose of the Permit: This permit allows for the management of fish populations in waters of the state. Fisheries management activities are conducted to support habitat restoration, native species restoration and recreational fisheries. Coverage under the general permit will be limited to Washington department of fish and wildlife only.
Permit and Supporting Documents: Ecology has made a determination to issue the fisheries resource mangement [management] NPDES general permit on September 2, 2015. A public comment period for the draft permit and supporting documents was held from June 3 through July 17, 2015. You may download copies of the permit and fact sheet, beginning September 2, 2015, from the following web site http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/pesticides/final_pesticide_permits/fish/fish_index.html.
