PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
CRIMINAL JUSTICE
TRAINING COMMISSION
[Filed May 30, 2018, 1:09 p.m.]
Subject of Possible Rule Making: The addition of language to WAC 139-10-215 is needed so the Washington state criminal justice training commission (WSCJTC) is able to clearly identify the parameters of eligibility to participate in the correction equivalency course.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 43.101.080.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: WAC 139-10-215 details who is eligible to participate in the corrections equivalency course, the current language allows a break in service in excess of twenty-four months with no limit of time. As skills deteriorate over time, it is important to identify when a corrections officer should be required to attend a full academy as opposed to an equivalency.
Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: WSCJTC regulates this process.
Process for Developing New Rule: Negotiated rule making; and commissioners will be advised of the proposed rule changes via email and will also be listed on the agency web site.
Interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication by contacting Sonja Peterson, 19010 1st Avenue South, Burien, WA 98148, phone 206-835-7356, email speterson@cjtc.state.wa.us.
