Subject of Possible Rule Making: Chapter 172-191 WAC, Student education records.

Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28B.35.120(12).

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Eastern Washington University is considering modifying the definition of directory information to better protect student privacy.

Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: The United States Department of Education regulates student education records. Any changes made will be consistent with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Process for Developing New Rule: Negotiated rule making.
