PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY
DEPARTMENT OF
FISH AND WILDLIFE
[Order 25-15—Filed June 30, 2025, 2:56 p.m.]
Subject of Possible Rule Making: The Washington department of fish and wildlife (WDFW) is considering rule making for coastal steelhead, trout, and gamefish recreational fishing to address conservation objectives and harvest opportunities.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Current regulations include fishing seasons for steelhead, trout, and gamefish that are not supported by population status, conservation need, and tribal comanager agreements. These regulations are intended to align fishing opportunity with conservation need for coastal steelhead and will decrease the need for emergency regulations.
Process for Developing New Rule: Agency study.
Interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication by contacting WDFW Rules Coordinator, P.O.
