INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
[Filed August 27, 2025, 4:35 p.m.]
This memo serves as notice that the department of health (department) is rescinding Interpretive Statement HP-9-27-17, Supervision of Applied Behavior Analysis Licensees by Psychologists, which was filed October 2, 2017, and published in WSR 17-20-067.
This statement gives the department's interpretation of RCW
18.380.030(1) to encompass Washington state licensed psychologists' practice of applied behavior analysis, including the supervision of licensed assistant behavior analysts and certified behavior technicians.
The department is rescinding this policy because the clarification of RCW
18.380.030(1) has been addressed through a frequently asked question on the department website at
https://doh.wa.gov/licenses-permits-and-certificates/professions-new-renew-or-update/applied-behavior-analysis/frequently-asked-questions.
Individuals requiring additional information on this should contact Shelbee Scrimo, program manager, at aba@doh.wa.gov.
