PERMANENT RULES
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
[Filed September 12, 2025, 7:18 a.m., effective October 13, 2025]
Effective Date of Rule: Thirty-one days after filing.
Purpose: Anesthesiologist assistant (AA) profession fees. The department of health (department), in consultation with the Washington medical commission (commission), is adopting new WAC 246-921-990 to implement the licensing and regulation fees for the new AA profession.
In the 2024 legislative session, the legislature passed SB 5184 (chapter 362, Laws of 2024), codified in chapter 18.71D RCW, that directs the commission to adopt rules necessary for the licensure of AAs. In accordance with RCW 18.71D.020 and 43.70.250, the department has adopted fees to establish and regulate the AA credential. The adopted rule establishes fees that will fund the licensing and regulation of the profession in the state of Washington.
On June 26, 2025, the commission adopted the AA profession under chapter 246-921 WAC in WSR 25-14-053. The new chapter establishes the education, training, examination, and continuing education requirements for the AA profession.
