Subject of Possible Rule Making: WAC 182-533-0400 Maternity care and newborn delivery, 182-533-0600 Planned home births and births in birthing centers, possibly other sections within chapter 182-531 WAC, Physician-related services; chapter 182-548 WAC, Federally qualified health centers; chapter 182-549 WAC, Rural health clinics; and other related rules as appropriate.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW
41.05.021 and
41.05.160.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: Effective January 1, 2027, the American Medical Association (AMA) is replacing the global obstetrics codes with itemized billing. The health care authority (HCA) is amending these chapters to update language references to global services and fees. During this review and as additional information is released by AMA, HCA may identify additional related changes that improve clarity or update policy.
