Subject of Possible Rule Making: Dietitian compact practice privilege fees and renewal cycle. The department of health (department) is considering a new section in chapter 246-822 WAC to implement SHB 2088 (chapter 18, Laws of 2026), which establishes the dietitian licensure compact and gives member states the discretion to charge a fee for granting compact privileges. The department may also consider additional fee items for clarity and consistency such as aligning late renewal, duplicate license, and verification fees with compact standards.

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: SHB 2088 creates a new interstate licensing compact for certified dietitians and gives member states the discretion to charge a fee for granting compact privileges. RCW 43.70.250 enables the department to set fees for compact privileges and requires that the costs of licensing or credentialing for each profession be fully borne by the members of that profession. Any fee that may be established for certified dietitians seeking to practice in this state by use of compact privileges under SHB 2088 must be set at an amount sufficient to cover the state's monetary obligations as a member state to the dietitian licensure compact.
