Subject of Possible Rule Making: Washington State University (university) is updating the rules regarding student education records, chapter 504-21 WAC.
Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW
28B.30.150.
Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The proposed amendments modify, clarify, and update the university's policies regarding student education records and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act compliance.
Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: Student education records regulations are also regulated by the Department of Education (ED); university regulations are reviewed to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and ED regulations.
Process for Developing New Rule: Comprehensive internal review before filing.
