Subject of Possible Rule Making: Supervision of radiologic technologists; the department of health (department) is considering amendments to rule sections in chapter 246-926 WAC, Radiologic imaging professionals, including WAC 246-926-020, 246-926-155, 246-926-180, 246-926-300, 246-926-310, and 246-926-410, to implement HB 2113 (chapter 10, Laws of 2026), regarding supervision requirements of certified diagnostic, therapeutic, and magnetic resonance imaging technologists performing parenteral procedures. The department will also consider developing and adopting rules to define terms for general, direct, and virtual direct supervision levels, clarify when each level of supervision is acceptable, and ensure supervision that is performed remotely is in compliance with all state laws. Finally, the department will consider minor housekeeping edits related to updates for WAC citation and references.

Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: The department will consider amendments to relevant rule sections in chapter 246-926 WAC related to supervision requirements of radiologic technologists during intravenous contrast procedures by a licensed practitioner under chapters 18.57, 18.71, 18.71A, 18.71B, 18.71C, or 18.79 RCW.

Rule making is necessary to establish revised supervision requirements under the licensed practitioners authorized scope of practice that is dictated by statute in the radiologic technologist chapter, including rules on parenteral procedures and clarification of scope of practice.
